Earlier this month, Beeman & Muchmore teamed up with Michael Corey and Dean Bolton from LicenseFortress on a blog post titled Understanding Your Legal & Contractual Rights in a Software License Audit. We are always pleased to join forces with our friends at LicenseFortress to help shed further light on the daunting and dangerous world of a software license audit. We are further pleased to note that the blog has garnered some attention from individuals in the field.
Here, as always, we emphasize the need for licensees to be well-informed and prepared in the face of an audit. To wit, a combination of overly helpful internal IT personnel and aggressive vendors geared towards revenue generation can create a perfect storm for a costly and often avoidable audit dispute.
To help stave off this storm, we address the crucial threshold step of exploring the rights and obligations that stem from the controlling license agreement. It is from this starting point that all audit discussions should follow.
